This is a monuments victory not only for herself, but for her district that is overwhelmingly white. It’s all about having representation where it matters.

Zakiya RandallInspired by Tiger Woods at a young age, motivated her to start her golf journey at the age of 10. At 17 she became the first woman in Georgia to win the Gold Channel Am Tour and now at 26 she is the 1st and youngest black woman to win a U.S. Golf Open.

After revealing earlier this year that she'd been accepted to every college she applied to, it was no surprise that an IVY league wouldn't be off the table, with a recommendation from Michelle Obama who could really say no! Lezley McSpadden & Daysa BrownAfter dropping out of high school nearly 20 years ago, Lezley McSpadden the mother of slain Michael Brown decided to go back to school to get her high school diploma. Graduating alongside her daughter Daysa, Lezley not only was able to present her daughter with her diploma, but was the first to graduate Jennings Senior High's Adult School Program. In Mike Brown's honor, Lezley created the "We Love Our Son's & Daughters Foundation" which focuses on advocating for justice and advancing education.

Auontai (Tay) AndersonThe youngest candidate to ever run for a seat on the Denver Public Schools Board of Education, 18-year-old Auontai (Tay) Anderson. The once homeless teen had this to say about this upcoming election: “My youth gives me the benefit of both a fresh perspective and the first-hand experiences of the strengths and weaknesses of our school system,” Anderson said. He strives to create more opportunities for students but especially students of color which he expresses are his top priority.

She is a Rocket and Structural Design and Analysis Engineer working on the space launch system that Boeing is constructing for NASA. What a way to represent!

What an amazing year for our black brothers and sisters at this year’s 2016 Rio Olympics. Way to represent and show the world just what black people are made of. Strong, powerful, and as the Olympics showed...determined. This last photo from the Rio Olympics shows nothing but a line of black women athletes at the podium waiting to be given their GOLD medals. Congrats to all of the winners and those who have made history for their countries. Whether the gold was brought home or not, the invisible gold of REPRESENTATION to those little athletes that are watching is just as important. Thank you Rio 2016!
