Can we take a minute to appreciate HBO’s comedy show Insecure!? The season just ended and we are freaking out! Like what just happened… ![]() This entire season was Real as F*ck (which happens to be the title of her 7th episode) and that just about sums up this season. Issa Rae who is the brains behind this hit show is also the leading actress. This show follows the life of Issa as she tries to figure out her life whether it’s dealing with her job at a non-profit organization for kids of color, her long term relationship with her boyfriend Lawrence, her friends Molly and sorority sisters, and just trying to decide what it is that she wants to do with her life. We are there with her on every part of that journey. This show uses Issa’s breakout web series Awkward Black Girl as the basis for a real, vulnerable, and hilarious journey through the life of a ‘twentysomething’ black woman that cuts through stereotypes usually perceived or portrayed. She is not afraid to go there with what she says and how her character feels. It’s certain that everyone has at least one point in their life wondered what their life would be like if they chose a different path or stepped outside of their comfort zone. By allowing her character to show real raw emotion and share thoughts that many might not EVER say out loud allows her audience to really connect. Insecure is a look into real issues that black women face that no one may never really understand unless you are in fact BLACK. This show resonates with black women because it’s not showing black women playing stereotypical roles but roles of power and in situations that are well…REAL! If you loved the early 2000 hit show Girlfriends then you should defiantly catch up with this show on HBO.

![]() Eminem released a diss track Wednesday just hours before the third Presidential debate and he does not shy away from how he feels about our Republican presidential nominee. Donald J Trump. Not as detailed as YG’s “F*ck Donald Trump” but you still get the idea in Eminem’s "Campaign Speech" track. In the song he talks about kidnapping and drowning Trump supporters, a little harsh (okay a lot harsh) but we all know Eminem is not one for being subtle. "Run the faucet, I'ma dunk/ A bunch of Trump supporters underwater," Eminem raps about halfway through the song. "Snuck up on 'em in Ray Bans in a gray van with a spray tan/ It's a wrap, like an Ace bandage." But wait there’s more: “Consider me a dangerous man / But you should be afraid of this dang candidate / You say Trump don’t kiss ass like a puppet? / ‘Cause he runs his campaign with his own cash for the funding? / And that’s what you wanted? / A fuckin’ loose cannon who’s blunt with his hand on the button / Who doesn’t have to answer to no one? /Great idea!” Aside from the assassination of Trump supporters he also addresses: Daniel Pantaleo : (the cop that murdered Eric Garner by using an illegal choke hold) "I'm givin' Daniel Pantaleo a refresher course/On excessive force and pressure points." Colin Kaepernick: "At a traffic stop gettin' harassed, sign an autograph/For this asshole cop's daughter, laugh 'cause I called her a brat on it/He spat on it and brought it back lookin' half in shock/Had a heart attack and dropped dead/Started fallin' back with it and got slapped with a Colin Kaepernick practice sock." George Zimmerman: ![]() "And dressin' George Zimmerman in a fluorescent orange/Dress and four inch heels to address the court/With a bullseye on his back/His whole chest and torso/Are left on the doorsteps of Trayvon's dad as a present for him." Eminem did not shy away during his controversial record on issues within our country as well as those that have made headlines in popular media. That is the beauty of music it is an art that allows you a platform to be able to express how you feel, even if there are those that don’t necessarily understand or agree with it. But it is your own interpretation and if they give you hate for it, at least you know they are listening. So go ahead and take a listen tell us what you think. ![]() Have a seat at the table with a tall glass of lemonade along with these two sisters that are making history in the music world. Beyoncé and Solange Knowles have made chart topping history by becoming the first sisters to land No. 1 spots in Billboard’s Top 200 Chart. The only other siblings to have achieved such success are Michael and Janet Jackson, as well as Master P and his brother, Silkk the Shocker. (Talk about black and successful siblings!) Beyoncé showed her support (as a big sister should) by congratulating Solange on the beautiful release of her album. Beyoncé then took to Instagram and posted a snapshot of a ‘Bey’ Barbie doll buying Solange’s album. (No doubt she’s a fan) The Knowles sisters are forces that play to the beat of their own drum, leaving very little room for spectators to have an effect on how they choose to convey their music to the world. One common element that both of their albums have is black women empowerment; and honestly what could be better especially in times like these. What a year this has been for Drake ! From headlining the sold out 'Summer Sixteen Tour' with rapper Future, to being romantically linked to Rhinnna (if that isn't highlight enough!) He is now in the headlines once again but this time for his Views album that was released early this year. On Sunday night Drake shared a single snapshot on his Instagram page to his millions of followers. His album has made history in the world of digital music by becoming the first artist to have an album reach over 1 BILLION streams! Talk about View goals.
![]() Who can get enough of Rhianna really? Apparently so much so that Colombian artist Juan Sebastián Peláez created a nearly 20-foot tall sculpture of the Barbadian beauty. Umm...did we forget to mention that she is headless ? His collection is part of a series of oversize photo-cutouts of headless human bodies –their faces pictured eerily on their chests. This bikini-clad statue entitled Ewaipanoma (Rihanna) of the singer was created in Berlin with a very unique concept. Juan hoped to convey in his art collection of celebrities the “projections of otherness” that are placed on those in the lime light and how celebrities are often looked at as faceless entities instead of people. Rhianna was able to take a break in her European tour and take a trip to Berlin to pay a visit to her giant sized sculpture. (not without posting to snapchat first!)
Where's the beef? There sure isn't any between these two rappers.
After rumored feud said to be brewing between Eminem and Drake , speculation was shut down when Eminem was welcomed on stage at Drake's Summer 16' Tour. As we're sure you all remember how the New York’s Hot 97 commentator Ebro informed Drake that Eminem might be jumping into the studio and Drakes response is was a little surprising to the rap game. Drake simply responded, he was ready and after Ebro told Drake that Eminem was going to come after him. Drake laughed and responded along the lines of Eminem knows better then to challenge him. But alls well it ends well right? We are just glad we won't have to pick sides. Because who can really choose between the two. Drake even referred to Eminem as the "greatest rapper ever." So lets just bump mikes and make a collab album ! (Maybe jump on a track or two in Drake & Kanye's joint album) Just throwing the idea out there. Come one, come all and sign this petition that will help save lives...Just kidding. But this cause will save Superbowl halftime. Mr. Kanye West is making his way around on a virtual petition form, created by Brian Sporman on change.org in the hopes of urging the NFL to let Kanye perform during halftime. Since Adele has stepped down as this years performer. A Kanye performance would differently be one to remember with
He has already received over 1k supporters in the hopes to giving the greatest performance of all time...OF ALL TIME *in kanye's voice* Welp...Looks like Justin has had enough. Justin Bieber has officially deleted his Instagram after negative comments about his love life by fans and (a certain ex) pushed him to the point of hitting the red 'delete account' button. May your Instagram page rest peacefully. ![]() As we morn the loss of Biebers page, looks like Selena is hoping it's not too late to say she's 'sorry' when she made this Snapchat post late Monday. Will he make an Instagram debut anytime soon or have we lost him for good? All we can say is 'never say never'.
Did Selena really just throw the ultimate shade to her ex Justin and Sofia Richie ? Okay here's what went down. So since Justin traveled to Japan early last week with Lionel Richie's daughter Sofia (who is 17...umm next Ky & Tyga?) they have been anything but camera shy. Holding hands and spending loads of time together, this budding relationship has sparked the attention of well pretty much everyone. After threatening to make his Instagram page private (Oh NO!) due to hateful comments were posted about Sofia by his Beilebers, Selena stepped in to stand up for the very group that threw the same amount of hate towards her when she was dating Justin. Now... Is she upset that Justin never made this 'noble' motion for her when they dated or is she just really so sick of that same old love? We can see where Justin was coming from as far as gaining fame from him. We all know Selena may have been out before him (apart of Disney's hit show Wizards of Waverly Place), BUT no one took her music career seriously. No hate we love Selena! The insta-fude went back and forth with her calling him out for cheating but he dropped the bomb when he name dropped! Well..looks like there won't be a Jelena reunion anytime soon. After posting multiple selfies of him and model Sofia Richie on Instagram while out in Japan, his 'Bieliebers' were...well lets just say not so thrilled. A story that is oh so familiar. His Bielbers went on the attack towards the alleged budding couple. Justin stood up and said enough is enough when he posted this caption under a photo of him and Sofia. Guess we will have to wait and see Justin's next move.
What will we do with a Bieber-less instgram ! Hopefully we won't have to see the day. |
