Welcome to the beginning of Black History Month! Or is it now African-American History Month? We can all attest to freaking out a bit when we came across headlines such as this: But looks like it was all just a RUMOR…
Trump stated that the term ‘Black History’ was outdated and felt that African American History Month was better suited. According to wusa9.com in 1986 congress passed the Public Law 99-244, which designated February in 1986 as "National Black (Afro-American) History month. Trump is not the first president to make the proclamation of referring to Black History as African American History. Every president dating back to George H. W. Bush in 1992 has issued a decree about national African American History Month, according to wusa9.com. The terms Black History Month and African American History Month have been used interchangeably since 1986 based on the congressional law. So hold your stones Donald Trump did NOT change anything around, the name Black History will continue to live on.
